History deserves a place in the life of an architect.

Documenting the project of 9 Mc Donald Street (Potts Point) has brought us the opportunity to explore the transformation of this dwelling that is representative of a grand upper class three storey terrace built in Sydney in the late nineteenth century; as stated by the architect and heritage advisor: Garry Stanley.

The restoration and construction process have been followed with dedication and passion, discovering from inside out the details and history of the house. The Old giving a chance to The New. The newcomer respecting the former (recipient of tradition or wisdom).

Something indicates that shapes can be the same, functions shows some similarities and the internal scale might be adjusted to new ways of living, new requirements and the same old necessity of living in a home. The seventeen (17) rooms of the boarding house were reduced to three (3) bedrooms plus one (1) attic where there, before, only a triangular roof shape was covering the house.

From many to few. From smaller to bigger. From old to new.

The beauty of old details is also depicting the new way of doing and thinking.  Bold elements pointing up. Points extended on the horizon. Lines radiating down to the earth and rounding up until the horizon is reached. Halve wheels that announce the need of each other (the old and the new) to become one better present and a good dream... for the future.
